ANSI B16.47 Series A WN Flange is a Weld Neck Flange that complies with the ANSI B16.47 standard, Series A. The detailed introduction is as follows:

Standard Overview

ANSI B16.47 is an American National Standards Institute standard for large-diameter steel flanges. The standard is divided into two series, Series A and Series B. Series A covers a series of flange specifications in terms of dimensions and pressure ratings, providing a unified design and manufacturing specification for large-diameter pipe connections. This ensures the interchangeability and reliability of flanges in different engineering projects.

Structural Features

  • Weld Neck Structure: The flange is equipped with a cylindrical neck, and the neck is butt-welded to the pipe. The existence of the neck enhances the strength and stability of the connection between the flange and the pipe. It can better withstand the pressure and stress within the pipe, reduce stress concentration, and improve the safety of the entire piping system.
  • Butt Weld Connection: The butt weld connection method makes the connection between the flange and the pipe more secure and tight. During the welding process, the neck of the flange is butt-welded with the groove of the pipe to form a continuous metal connection. The welded joint has high strength and good sealing performance, which can effectively prevent medium leakage and is suitable for harsh working conditions such as high temperature, high pressure and high corrosion.
  • Sealing Surface Types: Common sealing surface types include Raised Face (RF), Male and Female Face (MFM), Tongue and Groove Face (TG) and Ring Joint Face (RJ). The RF sealing surface is suitable for general working conditions. The MFM and TG sealing surfaces can provide better sealing performance and are suitable for occasions with certain sealing requirements. The RJ sealing surface is mainly used in special working conditions with high temperature, high pressure and extremely high sealing requirements.
  • Bolt Hole Distribution: The bolt holes are evenly distributed along the circumference of the flange and are used to connect with the matching flange through bolts. The number, diameter and distribution spacing of the bolt holes are all designed according to the flange size and pressure rating in accordance with the standard to ensure that the pressure can be evenly transmitted during connection and the sealing effect is ensured.

Dimensions and Pressure Ratings

  • Dimension Range: The nominal diameter usually ranges from DN350 (14 inches) to DN1500 (60 inches), covering the common size range of large-diameter pipes, which can meet the connection requirements of large-diameter pipes in different projects.
  • Pressure Ratings: It includes Class 75, Class 150, Class 300, Class 600, etc. Different pressure ratings correspond to different flange thicknesses, neck sizes and bolt specifications to adapt to piping systems with different working pressures. For example, Class 150 flanges are suitable for lower pressure conditions, while Class 600 flanges can be used in higher pressure environments.

Material Selection

  • Commonly used materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, etc. Carbon steel materials have good strength and economy and are suitable for general industrial environments. Stainless steel materials have excellent corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance and are often used in occasions with corrosive media, such as the chemical and seawater treatment industries. Alloy steel combines the characteristics of a variety of metal elements and can provide higher strength, heat resistance or other special properties according to specific engineering requirements.

Application Areas

  • Petrochemical Industry: In the processes of crude oil transportation, petroleum refining and petrochemical product production, it is used to connect large-diameter piping systems, such as the connections between equipment such as reactors, towers and heat exchangers and pipes, as well as the connection nodes of long-distance transportation pipelines.
  • Power Industry: In the large-diameter piping systems of power plants, such as steam pipelines and circulating water pipelines, it serves as an important connection component to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the piping system under high temperature and high pressure conditions.
  • Seawater Desalination Industry: Due to its good corrosion resistance and sealing performance, it is widely used in the large-diameter pipelines of seawater desalination plants in the process of seawater transportation, pretreatment, desalination and other processes.
  • Other Fields: It is also widely used in the large-diameter piping systems of the paper, pharmaceutical, food and beverage and other industries to achieve the connection and sealing of pipes and meet the requirements of different technological processes.
